Brasília, February 1, 2010
-As of February 1st the US Embassy is putting on the exhibit “Obama: The Man Few Know,” at the Praça das Artes in the Conjunto Nacional shopping mall. The exhibit comprises 20 special photographs taken behind the scenes at the White House. The show celebrates Afro-American History Month, which honors the struggles and the victories achieved by millions of American citizens for civil rights, President’s Day, celebrated on February 15th and the first anniversary of President Obama’s term of office.

The exhibition, which runs until February 28th, portrays the President in more informal situations, such as playing basketball with White House staff, preparing a barbeque, or playing with Bo, the family dog. “President Obama has a personal history of success and has inspired a lot of people all over the world. The exhibition shows the human side of the President, unlike that seen in official photographs,” says the Cultural Attaché at the US Embassy, Jean Manes.

In addition to the photographs, the Cultural Center at the Conjunto Nacional has a series of films and talks open to the public on the Afro-American history of the USA, President Obama’s life, and President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, celebrated on February 12th. The entire program is free of charge.
